Methotrexate shortage: how to help

February 12, 2012

Methotrexate supply, a life-saving chemotherapy for children with leukemia, is at a critical shortage. Here’s how you can help:

1. Watch the story from ABC World News.

2. Read the FDA’s drug shortages list to get more information and learn which pharmaceutical companies manufacture Methotrexate. UPDATE: We’re told the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists keeps the most up-to-date list HERE.

3. Call those manufacturers and voice your opinion!

4. Call or write your congressperson and senator; ask for an investigation of drug manufacturers’ practices re: childhood cancer drugs. Find your representatives here and senators here.

UPDATE: Our friends at PAC2 have an in-depth Call to Action, including the joint letter that the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) sent to the four companies who have slowed or stopped production.
